Data we handle
Account and sign-in data
Polaris uses your email address to create and identify your account, send one-time sign-in codes, and provide account notices. The browser extension stores your consent choice and a Polaris session token in browser extension storage. Sign-in codes are short-lived. Polaris stores server-side session tokens as hashes.
Instagram page data
After you agree to the disclosure in Polaris Capture, the extension can read the current Instagram page URL, saved collection name and identifier, and the reel links you choose to save or import. It sends those URLs and your collection choice to your Polaris account so it can add the selected reels to your library and process them for search and sourced answers. The extension does not send captions, creator names, thumbnails, comments, or other Instagram page text.
Polaris Capture does not ask for or collect your Instagram password, Instagram session cookies, direct messages, or contacts. It runs only on www.instagram.com. Server processing uses no Instagram account or session, so private or audience-restricted sources cannot be processed.
Library and product data
Polaris stores your private library and collection names, library membership, saved-item relationships, chats, projects, account settings, and actions needed to operate the product. It also keeps basic diagnostic and security records, such as request time, result, and error details.
Website and waitlist data
If you join the beta waitlist, Polaris stores the email address you submit for beta updates. Hosting and security systems receive standard request data such as IP address, browser type, requested page, and timestamp.
How we use data
Polaris uses this data to:
- sign you in and protect your account;
- save the reels and collections you select;
- transcribe, index, search, and summarize saved source material;
- answer questions with links to the source videos;
- keep each user's private library and collection membership separate;
- provide support, investigate errors, and prevent abuse; and
- send beta or service messages you requested.
Polaris does not sell personal data. It does not use extension data for personalized advertising, credit decisions, or lending decisions.
Chrome Web Store Limited Use
Polaris uses browser extension data only to provide and maintain the user-facing capture, private library, processing, search, and sourced-answer features described in the extension.
Polaris's use and transfer of data received through Polaris Capture complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
Security
Polaris sends account and extension data over HTTPS. It separates each user's private library membership, restricts authenticated requests to the signed-in account, hashes server-side session tokens, and keeps service credentials out of the browser extension. No internet service can promise absolute security.
Retention and deletion
Polaris keeps account data while your account is active and keeps private library data until you remove it or delete the account. Signing out revokes the extension session. “Forget this browser” removes the extension's local session and consent choice.
An account deletion request locks the account immediately. Polaris keeps the account for a 30-day recovery period, then purges the user's private libraries, collection membership, chats, sessions, and other personal account records. Some fraud-prevention, billing, or legal records may remain when needed for those purposes.
Polaris processes a public source video once and can use that record for more than one user. The canonical public-video record and processed material, such as the public caption, thumbnail, transcript, search index, and generated notes, may remain after you remove the video or delete your account because another user or curated library can refer to the same source. Polaris removes your private membership and the link between that source and your deleted account.
Your choices
- Do not accept the extension disclosure if you do not want Polaris Capture to read supported Instagram page data.
- Use “Forget this browser” to clear the extension's local session and consent choice.
- Remove individual saved items and private collections from your Polaris library.
- Open Settings in Polaris to request account deletion.
- Use the Support page for access, correction, deletion, or privacy questions.
Policy changes
Polaris will update the date at the top of this page when this policy changes. A change that affects how the extension uses data will also be reflected in the extension disclosure and Chrome Web Store listing.
